Data Analyst & Policy Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Data Analyst & Policy Support Specialist to join our team. This position will involve a blend of data analysis, project management and policy support with a particular focus on recycling and producer responsibility programs. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and writing skills, a keen interest in recycling and waste management processes, and the technical expertise to support policy development and strategic initiatives in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead or assist specific projects in recycling innovation:
o Support the planning, execution, and monitoring of projects related to testing recycling innovation.
o Ensure that key deliverables are met on time and within scope, collaborating with team members and external parties to track progress and resolve challenges.
o Maintain clear and effective communication regarding project status and assist in managing timelines, resources, and stakeholder expectations.
Support the team data analysis
o Conduct data analysis of various projects.
o Prepare written summaries and analysis of data trends, insights, and actionable recommendations related to the projects.
o Ensure data accuracy and integrity in reports, and help align findings.
Assist with Policy Development:
o Collaborate with team members to prepare and submit policy-related documents, focusing on recycling, waste management and extended producer responsibility.
o Assist in the research and analysis of policy impacts, particularly regarding recycling regulations, environmental standards, and industry trends.
o Provide support for the development of new policy initiatives, including gathering data and synthesizing findings.
Support Presentation Development:
o Assist in the creation of presentations for internal and external stakeholders, with a focus on data-driven insights.
o Gather, analyze, and present data in visually compelling formats that clearly communicate key findings.
o Ensure all presentations are accurate, polished, and on-brand for various audiences.
Develop Data Reporting Systems:
o Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop efficient data reporting systems related to recycling, waste management and EPR.
o Support the automation of data collection and reporting processes to streamline sustainability reporting, ensuring efficiency and accuracy.
o Continuously improve reporting methods to enhance accuracy, speed, and accessibility of data-driven insights.
Skills and Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Data Science, Public Policy, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience in data analysis, reporting, policy research, or a related field, with a specific focus on recycling, sustainability, or waste management.
Proven experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and advanced Excel skills.
Familiarity with recycling processes, regulations, and industry trends is highly desirable.
Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of recycling systems, waste management strategies, and sustainability initiatives.
Understanding of industry standards and metrics related to waste diversion, material recovery, and recycling efficiency.
Writing Skills: Excellent writing skills for preparing clear, concise reports, policy documents, and presentations.
Ability to translate complex data and technical concepts related to recycling into understandable and actionable insights for various stakeholders.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Fluency in English is required; fluency in French is required; Writing in French would be an asset.

Compensation:
Salary range of $85-90K plus a year- end bonus; at this stage, we do not offer a comprehensive package but we offer longer vacations until benefits might be in place

We are two very experienced and highly regarded independent consultants working in collaboration for various stakeholders (municipalities, producers, recyclers, producer responsibility organizations) in order to develop and implement solutions for recovery and recycling. Based in Canada, our scope is across North America.
